Platu Nationals and Raimon Land Platu Series 2009 Finished for Anuffa Year

Following a series of four major events, contested throughout 2009, Phuket resident Scott Duncanson and his Thai based team have won the prestigious Raimon Land Platu Championship against some of Asia’s best sailors in the 25 foot Platu one design class.

Based at Ocean Marina Jomtien, the championship is a best 3 of 4 event series.

Starting with the Platu Open in March, Duncanson’s Ferret team squeezed past Malaysian Rolf Heemskirk by the narrowest of margins. May’s Coronation Cup saw Australi… Continue

Long recognised as one of the top events in the yachting world, both regionally and internationally, the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is this year also being saluted as a major tourism attraction for Phuket. The annual event generates income and regional and global publicity highlighting Phuket as a world class marine lifestyle and sports destination. The Raja Muda International Regatta is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary.

ALL INTERESTED MULTI HULL SAILORS
by Henry Kaye
Their Race Committee have kindly invited a Multi Hull Class to enter, and start in this Regatta in Penang. Thereby missing the first two legs, from Port Klang to Pangkor,
and from Pangkor to Penang. The logic behind this abbreviated plan, is to avoid the numerous obstructions-kelangs-fishing stakes etc whilst roaring along at 20 kts at night.
It will also shorten the time involvement for those Phuket residents and crews, who may have difficulty in… Continue

Race Week

Tend to agree with Yo. We on Baby Tonga also expected a mini layday after the long race on Saturday, if for anything, some time to go home and get cleaned up and return for the party for once. But also possible, age is catching up with me. Still, great regatta and great courses.

BANQUE POPULAIRE - NEW TRANSATLANTIC RECORD

Subject to ratification BP did the crossing in 3 days, 15 hr, 5 min, 48 sec. comfortably beating the OR of 4d,03h,57m,54s.

As Thierry also mentioned - new 24hour record of 907miles = av. speed 37.79 knots. Yes, AVERAGE!!

Groupama 3 arrived just around 1 hr. after BP clocking 3d 18h 12m 56s, despite leaving New York 2.5 hours before BP.

Great Stuff!!

"THE PERFECT RIDE" -the J-80 Hawaiian Blast...

I just came back from Hawaii, and want to share the little story of one of the best sailing days, that I've experienced maybe in last decade.
The J-80 "Boondoggle" is a 26' little mono sportboat, but can be a lot of fun.I usually sail on this boat, when I'm in Maui.

Last Saturday, the 11th of July there was a scheduled race of The Maui Boat and Yacht Club, between Maui and Lanai islands, all about 20Nm.
Normally this is a all "downhill" sail across The Pailolo Channel, with "normal" winds(Trades) betwe… Continue

ACYC Club Sailing

Changing weather patterns with ominous skies which opened up and soaked the fleet led to trying conditions in Sunday's race. A wet and windy ride and obscured scenery in the now favoured around-the-island and sausage course held the nine-member fleet with most under reefed mains, high on the rails for the first leg with Mother Nature slowly easing her wrath to allow, at times, a more gentle sail with more refreshing tunes to the sound of the wind blowing over the mouths of beer bottles. With som… Continue

happy feet up-date

it's two steps forward and three back at the moment for happy feet. new cb/lift foil combination behaves much differently than the original. last two club races have seen the neutral lift foil position produce negative lift despite an adjustment in between. automatic flap angle control produces a very effective 0.25 m2 hand brake at sub flying speeds and makes slow tacks almost impossible, this was the cause of the slow start last sunday. despite this, flying performance is still impressive. pic… Continue

How this NETWORK works

It is easy but you should take a few minutes to see what it is all about.
This is a network, not a regular website. It is free for everybody who has an interest in sailing in Thailand to become a member.
Sign up (above right, takes 1 minute). Now you are a member and you have your own page, see 'my page' Everything you add or do on the network will be mentioned on your page and temporarily in the 'Latest activities box all the way down in the middle section.
On your own page ("my page") you find on the left a list with all things you can do. Add photos' videos, your event, start a group or a discussion and very important post a blog.
A Blog post is featured on top of the home page in the middle section. Anybody can post a blog just make sure it has to do with sailing in Thailand.

To make it more fun you should make friends, you click their picture in members (above) see their page and add them as a friend (on the left), in that way you will be updated by email in case your friend posts some news on the network. And last but not least, right below you can see if there are any other members on line, click on the text and a box will appear in which you can chat live with other members.
All good fun and the more members there will be the more fun it will become! You can invite all your friends with the button on top 'invite'

Enjoy and let us know what you think or ask if you have any questions!
Best Regards,
Rolien and Chris
